Level 1 HAZMAT - Greece, NY 4/10/13
April 10, 2013 - Firefighters from the Ridge Road Fire District responded for a report of smoke from the building at 1700 Lexington Ave. Upon arriving on scene they found a plume of what appeared to be smoke or steam laying low across the road. A second alarm was called which brought several companies from the Rochester Fire Dept. to the scene, and a Level 1 HAZMAT was declared shortly thereafter bringing the Monroe County Hazardous Materials Response Team to the scene. According to Ridge Road Battalion Chief William Timmons, after a lengthy investigation the 'smoke' was determined to be discharge from a normal cleaning operation that was not properly dissipating due to atmospheric conditions. The Level 1 was terminated just after 10:00 p.m. and companies began going back in service as they picked up.
