Ambulance Fire - Greece, NY 6/21/10
June 21, 2010 - Firefighters from the Ridge Road Fire District responded to Unity Hospital for the report of an ambulance on fire in the emergency room parking area. The first arriving engine reported an ambulance 'going good' under the overhang and requested the structural assignment to be filled out for an exposure problem. The fire was quickly knocked down and crews turned their attention toward clearing the building of smoke. A rescue truck from the North Greece FD responded to the scene for use of their ventilation fans. The hospital immediately closed the ER and activated their emergency plan. About 45 patients were relocated to another part of the hospital, but no injuries were reported. The exterior of the hospital suffered minor damage and the emergency room was reopened just over three hours later.
