Gates firefighters responded for a grease fire that was extending to the kitchen on Lyell Rd. The Gates Fire Chief arrived on location, reported heavy smoke from a 2-1/2 and declared a working fire. A mutual aid engine from the Ridge Road FD was started to the scene. The fire caused extensive damage throughout the house and firefighters removed at least two pets, including a dog and an exotic bird.
While still at a house fire on Lyell Rd., Gates firefighters were dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Overbrook Rd. Some equipment cleared Lyell Rd. to respond along with Rochester Truck 5 who was sent mutual aid. Engine 4512 arrived on location and reported embers from the chimney. Firefighters contained the fire using 'chimney bombs' which are essentially plastic bags filled with a dry chemical extinguishing agent. No injuries were reported and the fire did not extend into the rest of the house.
A firefighter monitors the pump gauges on Hamlin Engine 2413, which established a secondary water supply from the hydrant at Old Hojack Ln. and Collamer Rd.
